Barefoot Wine AVPNext Series - Stop #4

Hennings/Steinhauser Sweep Series
June 26 • Parkside Grill & Lounge - The hot, humid conditions didn't slow down the team of Steve Hennings and Craig Steinhauser as they swept all 4 seeding tournaments in the Quad Cities Barefoot Wine AVPNext Series. They enter the Quad Cities Championships on July 31st as the top seed, having never lost a single match.

They cruised through the field taking down Scott and Jake Schrader 21-14, 21-11. Next up they faced Danny Raes and Dan Ryan and beat them in 2 sets, 21-14 and 21-16. That win secured their spot in the finals where they again met Raes/Ryan and took the win 21-19 and 21-18.

If they hold true to form on July 31st, they will move on to Chicago to play in the National Championships and a shot at $10,000 in prize money.

After the men finished the net was lowered and the court was turned over to the ladies. For the past 3 weeks the team of Christina Partington and Dawn Steinhauser has finished as champs. They started out the day with a vistory over Brown/Cruz by forfeit. In the second round they faced Katy Hesler and Janelle Hester who had advanced by beating Junk/Schults 21-13, 21-19. This proved to be a tough match with Partington/Steinhauser coming out on top after 3 grueling sets 27-25, 15-21, 15-9. This put Partington/Steinhauser in the finals as Hesler/Hester dropped into the contenders bracket for a rematch with Junk/Schultz where Hesler/Hester survived in another 3 set match 22-20, 18-21, 15-12. This set up the rematch in the finals. Partington/Steinhauser dropped the first set 20-22. In the second set they won by a score of 21-19 forcing a third and deciding set. The score in the 3rd set was 15-13 as first time winners Hesler/Hester outlasted Partington and a very pregnant Steinhauser.

Full results are available at www.qcvolleyball.com. The Quad Cities Championship will be determined on July 31st at Cabanas in Rock Island. Admission is free so stop by and see some of the best volleyball players in the area heat it up for $2,000 and a chance to play against the pros in Chicago this August.
Juniors Sand Volleyball Leagues

Sand doubles is a great way to improve your volleyball skills while having lots of fun in the sun.

Why is doubles so good for young players? Simple - with only two players on the court you'll get a lot of touches on the ball. Not only that but whatever you don't do well... you'll do often. That means if you are struggling with passing the other team will likely take advantage of that and you'll receive the majority of serves. Having difficulty setting? Your opponents will serve your partner forcing you to set the ball.

Playing doubles also encourages players to think for themselves. With no coaches allowed, players have to figure things out on their own.

QCVolleyball juniors sand doubles leagues are available for 14u and 18u divisions. Leagues are held on Sunday afternoons at Junge park in Davenport, IA with matches starting at 1:00pm. Leagues are forming now and will start in June, running for 5 weeks. Specific dates are June 6, June 13, June 20, June 27, July 11.
