AVP CHARLESTON OPEN
Professional Beach Volleyball Returns to Charleston for Second Annual Event
CHARLESTON, SC (January 7, 2007) – The AVP Charleston Open, South Carolina’s only professional beach volleyball event and Charleston’s largest beach party of the year, returns May 15th - 18th, 2008 to the Family Circle Tennis Center on Daniel Island. Over 150 top players, including a host of US Olympic gold medalists and the biggest superstars of the game, will battle for a total purse of $200,000 in men’s and women’s competition. Weekend ticket packages and individual session tickets will be available for sale beginning March 1st, 2008.
Once again, the Family Circle Tennis Center will be transformed into beachfront property as over 1,500 tons of pristine white PGA Bunker quality sand will be trucked in to create five world-class volleyball courts spread out over the 32-acre facility, and an intimate center court inside Family Circle Magazine Stadium. This beautifully designed award-winning tennis facility will be become a volleyball paradise showcasing the premier matches and off-court activities throughout the four-day event.
“Our site plan will be similar to last year’s layout, but we’re integrating a host of improvements focused on enhancing the experience for both the fans and players alike,” noted Eleanor Adams, AVP Charleston Open Tournament Co-Manager. “We’re excited to have the chance to build on the success of our inaugural event, incorporate some of what we’ve seen by attending other AVP events around the country, and create some fun new activities of our own that are sure to entertain the whole family.” |

QCVolleyball / Rock Island Parks Department Spring VB Clinic Series
This is a 4 week program to introduce young players to the sport of volleyball and is targeted towards beginners and novice players.
Clinics are held in 4 weekly sessions on Sunday afternoons on May 4, 11, 18, and on June 1st of 2008. Time is from 1:00 pm until 3:30 pm. The clinics are held on grass courts at Hauberg field in Rock Island.
Clinic participants receive a 2008 AVPNext membership and lots of hands-on instruction. |

Team USA vs Bulgaria - Chicago, IL
USA Volleyball has announced that the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Ill., the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wis., and U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington, Ill., will host the three U.S. stops for the 2008 FIVB World League, which will be the final Olympic warm-up for the U.S. Men’s Volleyball Team.
The U.S. Men, ranked No. 3 in the world, will play in Pool C along with Bulgaria (No. 4), Spain (No. 6) and Finland (No. 22). Team USA will open domestic World League play against Bulgaria on June 20-21 at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, a northwestern suburb of Chicago. Both matches will be at 7 p.m.
On July 11-12, the United States will host Spain at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington, in central Illinois. Both matches will be at 7 p.m.

This program is offered in cooperation with the Rock Island and Moline Park Departments and is a 5 hour clinic held at Stephens Park in Moline, Illinois.
Get ready to have a lot of fun and learn about the game of volleyball! All students will receive a 2008 AVPNext Membership ($10 value), lots of hands-on instruction and playing time in a fun, friendly atmosphere. Students should wear clothing suitable for playing in sand, such as shorts and a t-shirt.
